Wolfenstein Xbox 360/PS3

Picking up from where the prequel “Return to Castle Wolfenstein” left off,  you take charge of William “B.J.. Blazkowitz who is working for United States Office of Secret Actions (OSA), a fictional version of the Office of Strategic Services. He is recruited and sent to investigate paranormal ongoings within the “Third Reich”

I found this to be a thoroughly enjoyable open world First Person Shooter, taking you through levels to get to the bottom of  your investigation into the rumours about what’s been  going on within the “Third Reich”. Upon your travels you encounter many forms of enemy from your standard Nazi soldier to strange beasts, Scribes,  Drache Trooper (Flame Thrower guys), Heavy Troopers (Guys in a heavy suit wielding a Particle Cannon) onto Demonic Bosses that have taken a human form.

The Campaign isn’t the biggest of campaigns out there, however it is larger than that from the recent Call of Duty/Battlefield series. What will, if you wish, make the game that little bit bigger is finding all the secrets. Throughout each individual mission and through each of the cardinal points of the market you can find hidden Intel, Gold and Tomes. If you’re into getting your 100% completion then this will surely rack up the time spent playing the game searching for all of these hidden secrets.

The arsenal at your disposal is pretty neat, ranging from Machine Guns to Bolt Action Rifles to more advanced Weapons such as Particle Cannons, Tesla Gun and the almighty Leichenfaust 44. All of which, along with your Medallion powers, can be upgraded at Black Market sites throughout the game.

What I enjoyed with Wolfenstein over other First Person Shooters was the twist of “magic” i.e the use of the “Thule Medallion”, this allows you to use the Nazi’s dark powers against them. You can enter a magical state of Veil where secret rooms and ladders may appear, you can slow down time using Mire, increase your damage using Empower or have a protective shield. These powers will become your best friend throughout the game.

Having done some Research into the game I was disappointed by some of your enemies names. There was some pretty mean looking bad guys, like the heavy trooper for example; as you can see from the picture he was a pretty mean looking S.O.B, I think they could have been a bit more creative with the name for him/them. Even if they’d used at German twist to the name I feel it might have suited him a little better.

Like above you have the Drache Trooper which is, in my opinion, an enemy that’s a little less intimidating than the Heavy Trooper and gets a much better name, which is partly why I feel how I do about the Heavy Trooper

Overall I would say this game is seriously worth getting and trying, it’s simple and straight forward, despite many different powers they’re all easy to use.
As of the time of writing this the new “Wolfenstein New Order” is due to be released in a few weeks, and having seen how good this is I hope to get that too.

On a side note if anyone has watched Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) was it just me or was there several similarities between this game and the film?
Fighting Nazi’s that aren’t quite as they seem
The Leichenfaust 44 has the same effect as the weapons Hydra use in the Film
